It’s a Nice Day for a White Whale

Migaloo, the rare white humpback whale, was gracious enough to kick off Australian whale watching season with an appearance off the coast of northern New South Wales. Interest in him is so intense that authorities have declared him a “special-interest whale,” which means admirers will be fined if they encroach on his personal space. Migaloo, who is named for the Aboriginal word for “white fella” (and, on a related note, grateful not to be named Snowflake), is estimated to be about 20 years old. You can read the full story about his appearance at Times Online. You can also check out entire sites devoted to the white whale here and here.
